It is quite obvious that the speed of most computers tend to decrease gradually when compared with its speed at the time of purchase. It is quite possible to increase the speed of most computers by just performing simple computer maintenance. However, you should not expect your computer to perform more than its capacity. You should not expect your Pentium II computer to perform like a Pentium III Computer. Also, your computer with a 64 MB Ram can not perform like one with 256 MB Ram.

Not withstanding the speed of your processor and size of your computer memory, the speed at which a computer performs tasks tends to decrease with time. With time, your windows will start loading slower, your programs will require much time to launch and in general, the performance of your computer becomes slow.

When you experience some of the problems above, you should not worry much. You can take some of the steps below to increase the speed of your personal computer, be it a notebook computer or a laptop computer.

Computers can be wonderful, but when they run slowly and don’t do what they are supposed to, they can turn into a frustrating nightmare. Here are some tips to improve your computer performance if it is not running the way you would like.

First, restart your computer. Sometimes that’s all your computer needs to start running better. If you use Windows as your browser, make sure that updates are automatic. This will keep your computer performance high and maintain a faster speed. To update Windows automatically, go to the Start Menu, Control Panel and “Windows Update.” Here you can check to have Automatic Updates.

Viruses, spyware and adware are all reasons that computers slow down and stop working properly. If you have any of these on your computer, any personal information you have typed could potentially be jeopardized. It’s imperative that you determine if you have a computer virus, spyware or adware immediately and that you remove them.

Uninstall any programs that you are no longer using. Most likely, there are many programs on your computer that you no longer need, and removing them will improve the computer performance and speed. Go to the Start Menu, Control Panel, and Add or Remove Programs. Here there is a list of programs and you choose the programs that you are not using anymore. (It’s very important that you don’t remove programs that you don’t know what they are, because they may be necessary for your PC to work properly.)

Over time, computers get errors on their disks. To eliminate these errors from your computer, you need to defragment it. You can do this by going to My Computer on the Start Menu, and then right clicking your mouse on the C drive. Open Properties and Tools. Here you can check for errors. If any are found, click here on Defragment. This should be done every month.

Sometimes your computer is running slow. Actually this is happening because of several reasons. Below are some of the reasons and tips on how to improve your computer performance.

1. Spyware, Malware and Adware
This is one of the reasons why your computer is running slow. When you install suspicious software, these things will also install in the background without you knowing it. Some of these things can be removed when you removed the software that comes with it.

However, there are softwares that remove spywares. Such as Spybot Search and Destroy. You can get this software for free.

Using only one type of spyware removal is not very effective. If you want your computer to be secure and free from spyware,use two software or more.

Windows Defender is a good option too. Use windows explorer to monitor your currently running programs.

2. Registry
Another reason why you computer is slow is because your computer registry is not stable and need to be clean. To do that, you need a registry cleaner software. There are many registry cleaner available for free. I recommend you guys to use RegSeeker.

3. Uninstall The Softwares That You Do Not Need
You can improve your computer performance by uninstalling the software that you do not need.

Free software can be found anywhere in the internet. However,some of these free software also come with some string attached like spyware and adware. So, be careful when installing FREE softwares.

4. Get Rid of Your Temporary Files
You can delete all your temporary files from your computer by running the disk cleanup tool. Or you can delete all the files in your ‘temp’ folder. Do not delete the folder. If you cannot find it, you can go to My Computer –> Local Disk(where you stored your windows OS) –> Documents and Settings –> Your Username –> oLocal Settings. Sometimes, this folder is hidden, adjust your folder setting so you can see this file.

5. Adjust for Best Performance
You can adjust your computer so it can run for best performance. However,the appearance will not be very good. If you are running windows XP, you can do this by going to Control Panel –> System –> Advanced –> Performance Setting –> Adjust For Best Performance.
